Biographic Highlights
Nardy Castellini was born in Matanzas, Cuba. Land of afro-Cuban music.
He drops out from engineering school to study saxophone.
He graduates as a music professor and joins the Modern Music Orchestra of Mantanzas.
His career starts in early nineties with Talla Extra, accompanying Xiomara Laugart with Omar Sossa as the musical director.
In 1993 he joins the pianist Chucho Lopez with whom he toured in Canada.
In 1994 and 1995 he collaborates with Afrocuba and Klimax directed by Giraldo Piloto.
Starting in 1997 he joins the famous band Cubanismo in a 4 years world tour.
Early 2000 in collaboration with Dario Moreno he creates the jazz fusion band “Four Runners”. Their album won the Best Album at the Music of Andalusia Awards.
In 2002 he releases IDENTITY his first CD as a leader featuring Omar Sosa, Sherman Irby and Tata Güines. The CD makes the top 10 Latin jazz album of French Magazine Jazz Hot.
Between 2002 and 2010 he toured with Identity, played with the Blues Band of Granada and with Ignacio Nachito Herrera in a US Tour. In 2005 the Star Tribune of Minneapolis compares Nardy’ s tenor saxophone solo to Micheal Brecker.
In 2009 Nardy and DJ Toner co-created Domestic Jazz Collective a hip-hop, electro jazz project recording and performing together.
In 2010 he releases ORIGENES his second CD as a leader. The Album uncovers a new direction in Cuban jazz with ancestral Afro-Cuban rhythm with a jazz fusion.
Between 1991 and 2011, Nardy contributed to more than 20 recording.
In 2012 Nardy joined the World Tour of Rodrigo Y Gabriela and C.U.B.A in 46 concerts in 7 months including 3 major TV shows, amongst them Jay Leno.
